Summary

Emilia and her twin sister Victoria are streghe - witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution。 One night, Victoria misses dinner service at the family's renowned Sicilian restaurant。 Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin。。。desecrated beyond belief。 Devastated, Emilia sets out to discover who did this, and to seek vengeance at any cost—even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden。

Then Emilia meets Wrath, the outlier among the seven demon brethren, always choosing duty over pleasure。 He’s been tasked by his master with investigating a series of women’s murders on the island。 When Emilia and Wrath’s fates collide, it’s clear this disturbing mystery will take a bewitching turn。。。

Kerri Maniscalco introduces her next series, a dark tale of a beautiful young witch, a troubled demon, and their epic romance, set against a 19th century Italian backdrop。

I want to start this by saying I loved Wrath。 He's probably why I read it。 Emilia wasn't the worst main character I've read but she did frustrate me sometimes, to the point I had to put my book down。 I absolutely loved the concept of the story with deadly sins but honestly I was very lost the whole story。 Do not ask me wtf happened at the end because I HAVE NO IDEA。 I want to start this by saying I loved Wrath。 He's probably why I read it。 Emilia wasn't the worst main character I've read but she did frustrate me sometimes, to the point I had to put my book down。 I absolutely loved the concept of the story with deadly sins but honestly I was very lost the whole story。 Do not ask me wtf happened at the end because I HAVE NO IDEA。 。。。more

“It seemed I’d been wrong earlier; the goddess of death and fury hadn’t ignored my pleas。 She’d simply been biding her time, waiting for me to turn my despair into something she could use。 A twig was just a bit of broken wood until it had been sharpened into a spear。 Grief carved me in half。 And fury honed the pieces into a weapon。”

I really liked the idea of this novel & I wanted to like it so bad but I found myself just having it on in the background (I listened to the audio version) & I noticed I didn’t mind not fully understanding what was going on - basically I wasn’t invested in it。 The story was unfortunately forgettable & I don’t think I would recommend it personally。 Almost DNF lol

Confusing at the end。。。I couldn’t ever get into those characters, and I was really confused as to what happened at the end。 I felt like some pages were missing? It has good potential to lead up to a really good trilogy。。。

- DNF for the time being - Can't believe I'm saying this but it's entirely my fault for the inability to move past the 10%。 The beginning is making me so anxious like I can't even move past without cringing in the inside。 I mean there's nothing wrong but I just don't like books starting off with this style。 I'm trying to will myself to at least get to the halfway mark but sigh, I'm just weak。 I'll try to come back to it next time, hopefully。 - DNF for the time being - Can't believe I'm saying this but it's entirely my fault for the inability to move past the 10%。 The beginning is making me so anxious like I can't even move past without cringing in the inside。 I mean there's nothing wrong but I just don't like books starting off with this style。 I'm trying to will myself to at least get to the halfway mark but sigh, I'm just weak。 I'll try to come back to it next time, hopefully。 。。。more

I don’t really know what to make of it。 I am going to pick up the sequel when it comes out, though。 I'm looking forward to reading more about the inner workings of the Kingdom of the Wicked and see the demons at work because their appearances in the first novel were the most enjoyable part, in my opinion。 Curious to find out where this story will go next and if my remaining questions will be answered。 。。。more

I'm kinda disappointed that barely any of the mystery was solved, like there's still so much unknown about Vittoria。 The murderer was revealed but the motives and influences were still ambiguous。 Nonna doesn't seem to have told Emilia everything。 That subplot with Carolina and Claudia never finished? I also don't understand what happened with Wrath in the last few chapters? I'm sure these questions will all be answered and resolved in the sequel but I wish there were more answers in this book。 I I'm kinda disappointed that barely any of the mystery was solved, like there's still so much unknown about Vittoria。 The murderer was revealed but the motives and influences were still ambiguous。 Nonna doesn't seem to have told Emilia everything。 That subplot with Carolina and Claudia never finished? I fell in love with this story as soon as I read the first chapter, unable to put it down, I felt like I finished it in one long breath。 As suspected I fell in love with not only Wrath but also Emilia。 I longed for them to discover the mysteries of the Wicked as no other。HOWEVER I absolutely loath the ending。 I can't stand it when authors leave the end of a book with a cliffhanger, which almost forces the reader to buy the next book。I do have to wait another half year before the sequel comes out I fell in love with this story as soon as I read the first chapter, unable to put it down, I felt like I finished it in one long breath。 As suspected I fell in love with not only Wrath but also Emilia。 I longed for them to discover the mysteries of the Wicked as no other。HOWEVER I absolutely loath the ending。 I can't stand it when authors leave the end of a book with a cliffhanger, which almost forces the reader to buy the next book。I do have to wait another half year before the sequel comes out so chances are big I forgave the author for leaving me restless after finishing this amazing book。Score : 4/5- 1 for the cliffhanger and the slight rush I felt near the end。 。。。more

It took me a while to finish this book。 For me, the first half was pretty slow。 I overall like the concept and story line of the book but it just。。。。 didn’t entirely do it for me? Things felt rushed in some areas and when I was supposed feel excitement or awe I felt like moments came and passed too fast for me to feel anything? I give it a three stars。 I’ll be reading the next one because even though I don’t like the pacing of the story I still want to see how this story continues。

I picked this up on a whim via audiobook and from the moment I started this book, I couldn’t stop。 I ended up switching from audio to kindle version so I could read at times I couldn’t listen to audio。 The audio is fantastic if anyone is looking to go that route, FYI。I cannot wait for the second book to come out。 Are you kidding me with that ending? Ugh。

Six months of this book sitting on my GR currently reading shelf, and I finally (finally!!) finished the last eight percent。 I'm gonna be honest and admit that I have a hazy recollection of what's what and who's who by now, and I barely understood the eight percent I read。 But honestly? I just wanted this book out of my currently reading shelf。 I needed to be done with it。 It's still a toss up whether or not I'll be reading the sequel。 It's likely considering the hype but I'm not so sure I'm all Six months of this book sitting on my GR currently reading shelf, and I finally (finally!!) finished the last eight percent。 I'm gonna be honest and admit that I have a hazy recollection of what's what and who's who by now, and I barely understood the eight percent I read。 But honestly? This book was pretty great。 A strong protagonist, a hot male lead, and some spicy revenge。 The ending kinda took me out, I didn't really like the last few pages, but I'm more than ready for the second book。 I'll admit that the dresses the protagonist wears sound amazing and I'd buy them in a heartbeat。 Every time Envy popped up in the book, I kept thinking of FMAB's Envy and that made it kinda funny cause they talk very similarly。 I really wanna see how the second book ends, I'm a Wrath/Emilia s This book was pretty great。 A strong protagonist, a hot male lead, and some spicy revenge。 The ending kinda took me out, I didn't really like the last few pages, but I'm more than ready for the second book。 I'll admit that the dresses the protagonist wears sound amazing and I'd buy them in a heartbeat。 Every time Envy popped up in the book, I kept thinking of FMAB's Envy and that made it kinda funny cause they talk very similarly。 I really wanna see how the second book ends, I'm a Wrath/Emilia shipper hardcore。 Wrath carries the book hardcore。 He's just obnoxiously hot。 。。。more

Someone please recommend me some similar books to this! It's been awhile since I've read a book that I absolutely couldn't put down! I basically finished this book in one day! Loved it! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Likes:- I enjoyed Emilia's character thoroughly。 We're all affected by trauma so differently, and the fact she chose to let wrath (the emotion lol) take her over instead of grief was an interesting (and I can guarantee purposeful)。 It annoyed me that she was a little dumb in certain circumstances (the beach and then not learning when she went to the monastery again) but honestly we're all a lil dumb sometimes so I can't hold it against her。- WRATH。 CAN WE JUST GUSH ABOUT HIM FOR A SEC?!?!?! ik i Likes:- I enjoyed Emilia's character thoroughly。 We're all affected by trauma so differently, and the fact she chose to let wrath (the emotion lol) take her over instead of grief was an interesting (and I can guarantee purposeful)。 It annoyed me that she was a little dumb in certain circumstances (the beach and then not learning when she went to the monastery again) but honestly we're all a lil dumb sometimes so I can't hold it against her。- WRATH。 CAN WE JUST GUSH ABOUT HIM FOR A SEC?!?!?! ik ik he's a devil and shit but OH MAH GAWD I'm obsessed with him。 The whole idea of Hellish manners and propriety absolutely killed me, and even though he's the literal prince of wrath he's a gentleman and I love him for it。 BYEEEEE- the pacing was great for most of the book。 I enjoyed how fast it was (I can't deal with slow-moving books they bore me) and I thought it was very well done。What I found a bit lacking:- there were some copy editing errors that actually really bothered me at some points, but I could look past that in favor of a good story, and this was a good story。- I was annoyed by the occasional heavy-handed foreshadowing, but after reading things that truly surprised me, I think that was sort of on purpose。 It was intentional misdirection and that's genius- I got lost on what day it was so many times。 the passage of time confused the shit out of me。 I only understood it after her encounter with Lust when it was spelled out for us。 It didn't necessarily take away from the story for me, but I definitely found myself hung up on it a few times。Overall, this was honestly just what I needed and it scratched a very specific itch for me。 I love ANY story having to do with demons and especially hot demonic princes, so this was perfection for me。 。。。more

I felt this book had really choppy pacing。 It was a lot of telling the reader what was happening rather than showing the reader。 I think this would have been better written in 3rd person, had potential but ultimately wasted on one dimensional characters。

I decided to read this book without knowing anything about the story and I honestly enjoyed the plot more because of it。 The fact that no one could be trusted throughout the book made the plot even more intriguing and enthralling。 Every character had a hidden agenda and every step Emilia took to unravel the mystery of her sister's death led Emilia deeper and deeper into trouble。 She learned things she thought didn't exist in the real world and in the process found out more about her family and h I decided to read this book without knowing anything about the story and I honestly enjoyed the plot more because of it。 The fact that no one could be trusted throughout the book made the plot even more intriguing and enthralling。 Every character had a hidden agenda and every step Emilia took to unravel the mystery of her sister's death led Emilia deeper and deeper into trouble。 She learned things she thought didn't exist in the real world and in the process found out more about her family and herself。 Her grandmother concealed a lot from her and her twin sister but due to numerous gruesome murders involving witches she learned the horrible truth that all the stories she was told as a child growing up wasn't always as her grandmother portrayed。 Wrath being a demon prince from hell surprised me and I wanted him to be the exception to his evil brothers but he was just a devious and deceptive as each of them。 I do believe he felt a deeper connection to Emilia and his actions sometimes proved that。 He was confusing to read at times but I was still weary of his true intentions。 I also enjoyed reading Emilia's different encounter with the princes of hell。 Her experience was frightening because these brothers lived up to their horrible and evil nature。 They knew how to manipulate and rule over their different houses all while still exuding a scary and dark persona。 Each prince of hell preyed on Emilia in different ways by showcasing their powers and abilities。 Emilia later grew to understand their true nature and was able to better prepare herself against them。There are many more questions that needs to be answered and book 2 release date is too far away because I need answers NOW!
